Coming to the BBC This Christmas... The Day of the Triffids
Painting Practice uses CINEMA 4D to create amazing effects and locations for the fast-paced, post-apocalyptic drama.A modern take on the best-selling sci-fi novel "The Day of the Triffids" is to hit TV screens this Christmas.
MAXON's CINEMA 4D software was used by leading concept / previz studio Painting Practice to create incredible effects and locations for the two-part drama, which airs on BBC One on 28 and 29 December at 9 p.m.
Commissioned by London-based production studio Power, Painting Practice had a strong involvement across the entire production, handling storyboarding, pre-viz and matte painting.
Based on John Wyndham's best-selling post-apocalyptic novel, The Day of the Triffids, this exciting drama of the same name features a stellar cast. Dougray Scott (Mission: Impossible II), Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck), Brian Cox (X2), Vanessa Redgrave (Deep Impact), Eddie Izzard (The Riches) and Jason Priestly (Beverly Hills 90210) star, with the screenplay written by Patrick Harbinson (ER, Law & Order).
Set in the not-too-distant future, The Day of the Triffids centers around humankind's need to find a new fuel supply. The Triffid plant seems to hold the answer and is cultivated for its fuel. But when spectators gather worldwide to watch a solar storm and billions are left blinded by the event, the path is left clear for the Triffids to roam the earth. With their fatal sting and taste for human flesh, the Triffids could spell the end of the human race.
