you assign a material tag to a nurbs object, if you write C1 or C2
in the Selection Field, then the material should be restricted to
Cap 1 or Cap2.
This
is not taken into account by FR.

4D SSS shader

In
CINEMA 4D it is possible to detect if the same SSS shader is
applied to multiple objects. So the renderer can remove
intersecting faces between two objects having the same SSS shader
assigned. Because of the shader-tree nature of finalRender
Stage-2 this detection is not possible and must be avoided through
the shader itself.
