HOUDINI ENGINE INTEGRATION – PUBLIC BETA
First announced during last year’s fmx 2014 as a strategic partnership between Side Effects Software and MAXON, Cinema 4D’s soon to be released Houdini Engine integration finally comes to life with a public Beta.
When it comes to high-end simulation tasks in 3D animation lots of studios and artists rely on Houdini as the tool of choice for their pipeline. The connectivity of Side Effect's Houdini Engine with Cinema 4D brings two applications together with individual strengths in different sectors and will significantly boost comfort and performance for all users. Houdini offers completely new possibilities for Cinema 4D users for simulations, creating and using complex digital assets and procedurals, and node-based workflow. Houdini users will benefit from Cinema 4D’s intuitive workflow, interoperability with industry leading applications, ease of use, speed and dependability.
What does it do?
The integration allows the user to load HDAs inside Cinema 4D and manipulate them like standard Cinema 4D generators. The Houdini Engine processes the HDA in the background and returns it to Cinema 4D. This whole process happens in the background with extremely low overheads, is non intrusive and the user just sees the result, just like with any other standard C4D generator.
Artists who are not yet familiar with Houdini but want to utilize HDAs in Cinema 4D, can start by downloading pre-built assets from Orbolt store, Side FX’s digital marketplace for Houdini assets. Users can access the store directly from inside Cinema 4D and start downloading HDAs.
Who can use it?
The Public Beta of the Houdini integration is available as a free download to users who have Cinema 4D Studio R16 with Service Pack 3 installed, along with a valid and compatible Houdini Engine license. For Houdini Engine pricing please refer to the Side Effects website.
Although the plug-in is already working very well it’s important to understand that it’s still a Beta software that shouldn’t be used on a system you’re heavily relying to during your daily work. That being said, please read the Beta EULA carefully before installing and using the plug-in!
