Importing Files
Even though CINEMA 4D possesses its own powerful modeling capabilities,
you will most likely prefer to work with your CAD application when modeling
­ even though you now own your own CINEMA 4D Engineering Bundle. What
is important, then, is the ability to conveniently import your CAD models into
CINEMA 4D.
We touched on the import/export options in chapter 3.
Depending on which
CINEMA 4D Engineering Bundle you own, some of the following options may
not be available.
CINEMA 4D has always possessed numerous import filters for importing
foreign file formats.
Some common formats are DXF and VRML as well as STL or OBJ. But in most cases, CAD files are transferred using the IGES format. A component of each Engineering Bundle is the IGES 4D filter, with which you can import IGES files up to V5.3 . You will find the settings under “Edit > Preferences > Import-Export >If you own the complete CINEMA 4D Engineering Bundle you are also the proud owner of the Okino Polytrans plug-in for Windows. This is one of the most powerful 3D file converters on the market today. Included in the Polytrans package are the modules CAD-Pack and Granite-Pack, which make it possible for you to access the greatest number of file formats available.
