LaFee music video "Shut Up".

Three-time Echo Award winner LaFee goes international with her first English-language single, “Shut Up”. Director Bastien Francois and EMI Music turned to their trusted partner effect etage for the production and post-production of this dark and gloomy video. LaFee’s hard-edge music style, mystical 3D worlds, medieval real locations and numerous visual effects all combine to give this music video a unique look and feel.

The first of two filming days took place on location in a fortification built in the year 1559. Daylight footage was turned into nighttime footage in the compositing phase in a process called day-for-night shots. The blue-screen settings were first tracked using Matchmover 3D, and the camera movement was then imported into CINEMA 4D. The roots growing up and along the walls were created using the CINEMA 4D plug-in, Xfrog.

The scene in which it appears that the main character’s mouth grows shut was created using the CINEMA 4D's Clothilde. This module proved to be a very effective tool for this effect, which was also used to create the effect of the mouth ripping open. Compositing was used to fine-tune it to a realistic-looking shot.

The second day of filming took place in a blue-screen studio, in which most of the music performance shots were done. In the end, these were to look like the band performed in a run-down cathedral. This cathedral was modeled, textured and illuminated in CINEMA 4D. Finally, CINEMA 4D’s Thinking Particles module was used to create several particle effects for various shots. Thanks to CINEMA 4D’s efficient workflow, post-production for this video was completed in a total of only eight days.
